Sebastian Serpa, born and raised in Miami, Florida, began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey at the young age of 9. Training under the legendary Carlson Gracie team, Sebastian quickly fell in love with the sport, dedicating himself to mastering the art. After over 14 years of relentless training, he achieved the coveted rank of black belt at just 20 years old—a testament to his dedication, discipline, and natural talent.
Personal Growth
Now training under Kevin and Brian Mahecha at Outer Heaven, Sebastian has set his sights on becoming an IBJJF World Champion, one of the most prestigious titles in the sport. His passion, however, goes beyond personal accolades. As a coach, Sebastian is committed to helping students around the world elevate their Jiu-Jitsu, passing on the knowledge he’s acquired throughout his competitive career. He finds great fulfillment in teaching and empowering others to reach their full potential on the mats.
Mentorship
Sebastian’s teaching philosophy centers around precision and control, with some of his favorite techniques to share being single leg X, spider lasso, and guard retention. These techniques, refined over years of competition and practice, form the cornerstone of his approach to both teaching and competing.

As a competitor, Sebastian has proven himself time and again against some of the top names in the sport. With his relentless work ethic and a focus on achieving greatness, there’s no doubt that his name will continue to be a force to be reckoned with in the Jiu-Jitsu community.
